Runnie won both the International Penguin Championship and the Eastern E-Scow Championship seven times. In was in 1934 that Runnie won his first BBYRA Championship, in the Sneakbox Doon II; in 1994, sixty years later, he won his 18th BBYRA Championship in the E-Scow Calamity. In 1989 Runnie was the recipient of the W. Van Alan Clark, Jr. Trophy which is presented annually by the United States Yacht Racing Union to the American sailor who best exemplifies the ideal and traditions of good sportsmanship.
